New Phone Number

Share A Star now has its own direct dial geographical telephone number.

Our new number is 01634 542500

We are using a VOIP system installed by Chuckles last week. Prior to this we used a redirect 0845 local number. The new system means callers will pay less and may be free with certain call packages. Now when you call we can answer as Share A Star; currently calls were redirected to Team Taylor’s domestic line.

Calls will now come through to our dedicated charity number and if we can’t take the call will be directed to voicemail and emailed to us.

As we grow our voip system can grow with us.

Share a Star’s Starlit Spring Ball GRAND TOTAL

GRAND TOTAL, AN INCREDIBLE £8.1K!!
It was a great pleasure to have been able to spend the night with 130 SUPPORTERS of Share a Star and all that we do. It was humbling for many reasons, the first being that I managed to get from my World of One Room to there (!) and the second being that everyone was there with a mission: to raise as much money as possible for our cause.

We made sure that it was intimate celebration of all that we have achieved and want to go onto achieve. Each table was named after a ‘Forever Star’, those stars that are no longer with us but who’s stories continue to inspire us. The incredibly lovely Kara Tointon was there as our ambassador alongside her sister Hannah Tointon. Both of which were delightful and have always been so supportive of our work. Jamie Johnson was on hand to sing an array of his latest material to which made everyone swoon.

The result of this fantastic event was we raised £8.1k for Share a Star! An incredible amount raised and I would like to thank each and every person that came or was a part of it online. You are all stars in our eyes!

Hot Chocolate and Cake stall

Our Katie Star has been constantly fighting for her life since she was born with her organs on the outside of her body. This has never stopped her zest for life though and we have been supporting her. She was our first star to go on a special trip through our Oakley’s Outings project. Katie went to the theatre to see Wicked with her family and she loved it! Ever since she has tirelessly raised awareness for Share a Star at her school, Walderslade Girls school and PGW sixth form.

We were contacted by the school, where they said that Katie had put Share a Star up as a charity the school should support. Katie spent two weeks making Hot Chocolates with whipped cream and marshmallows and selling star themed cakes and in that short time, managed to raise £102.40!

SAS would like to say a massive thank you to Katie for her efforts, to Walderslade Girls School, PGW Sixth form and to all the people who who helped her out. Jessica was handed the cheque today and would like to say a special thank you to:

-Miss Pocock
-Mrs James
-Chloe
-Victoria
-Kim
-James
(and many others)

You are all STARS!

Sad news – Our Jake Star

I’m sad to inform you that our very well loved Jake Star has passed away and gained his angel wings today. He suffered from a brain tumour and was a brave warrior. Jake was very loved by the whole community he lived in. We will continue to support his immediate family, and will be delivering to his brother ‘Incredible Joe Hulk’, to make him realise how incredible he is too, through all this devastation. Jake you have and always will be a star but today you truly became one of our ‘Forever Stars’ and when the stars come out to play, we will see you shining.

Star of the Moment MARCH 2016

This month, we are highlighting transplant donation and how life saving these are. Our Jude Star is March’s Star of the Moment, so here is a little bit more about what struggles he has been through:

Jude has Intestinal Failure and now requires a Multi Visceral Transplant. He has been unable to feed normally since he was born. He was pre term and very sick it really became apparent that there was something very wrong when he began to have formula. We spent 2 years trying to feed via many routes including his small bowel. Jude failed to thrive and was very small and underweight so at 2 he commenced TPN ( Total Parental Nutrition) since starting TPN he has had many complications including a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in his lung) and recurrent line infections. Sadly he needs to be on his TPN 24 hours a day. He has had many surgeries this year to ensure we had tried everything to restore his bowel function. This being unsuccessful resulted in Jude being listed for Transplant.

What Jude’s Mum says about Share a Star:
Share a Star is a wonderful charity who really cares. Although Jessica is poorly herself, she always makes time to see if her ‘Stars’ are ok! Jude loves his star and will benefit from other organisations through Share a Star. We are really very lucky to be part of this wonderful charity.

jude1

We shall be sending Jude a bunch of balloons and will continue to support Jude and his family. Next is his adventure to go to the theatre, due to Share a Star’s Oakley’s Outing! Please make sure you support organ donation, you could change lives

Dynamo Makes Magic

Dynamo is known for making magic through his tricks, but in November 2015, he created it by going on behalf of Share a Star to visit our Ruth Star in hospital. Ruth is seriously chronically unwell and spends a huge amount of time in hospital being fed through tubes.

When Dynamo was a teen, he was also seriously unwell. The fact that he got better enough to live his dreams, means that he acts as a beacon of hope to chronically unwell youngsters. Having only spent two weeks of 2015 at home, we asked Ruth what would be a wish of a lifetime, and her answer was to meet her hero Dynamo.

We love spreading hope, so worked our hardest and managed to make this dream come true! We managed to keep it a secret from Ruth and her face was a picture when Dynamo walked into her hospital bay. He spent time with Ruth and did what he does best; create magic! A massive thank you to Dynamo, and all that work with him for fitting in a visit to Ruth so quickly.

Rochester Grammar School Support – Incredible!

This year we have been greatly indebted to the incredibly kind support of Rochester Grammar School. Whilst being their “Charity of the Year” they have altogether raised over £3000 from their fundraising efforts.

Jessica and Lorraine attended the Founders Day Service at Rochester Cathedral which was followed by lunch and the Founders Day Fair which raised £1,800. Additionally Maisie Orange has held a number of cake sales at school and raised £1061! [photo awaited!]

Jessica and Oakley after the Founders Day Service

Let us tell you what this kind of fundraising can get us to: £20 buys a unique handmade holding star,£25 buys a basic balloon set to brighten someone’s day, £35 each buys us a basic Superstar Surprise gift set for a family in hospital, £100 helps us to fund our incredibly important project Forever a Star for bereaved families, whilst hundreds of pounds helps our Oakley’s Outing project.Your generous support has made a huge difference in enabling us to continue our important work, thank you!

Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge

Our latest fundraiser is to attempt the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge next weekend. Jo Mings is taking part in the challenge to raise funds for Share A Star.

Jo said

“I have decided to walk the 26 mile route for the most inspiring “Share a Star” charity. Jessica Taylor fell ill almost 10 years ago with ME (chronic fatigue syndrome) and has been on a rollecoaster journey battling this illness amongst many other complications. She setup the charity along with her family to support other severely ill children and teenagers, and provide opportunities for them to treated as children and teenagers accordingly, without their illnesses holding them back. They provide hope and a positive outlook. They organise outings and send special gifts and cards.

As an amazing person and friend, please join me in supporting Jessica and her fellow “stars”.”

To sponsor Jo please visit her online giving page https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/jomingsyorkshire3peaks

“I love Yorkshire, I love walking, I love exploring.

I was looking for a challenge and what better way than to try to complete the Yorkshire 3 Peak challenge!
My team and I must complete the 26 mile route in 12 hours. 2 miles an hour doesn’t sound too difficult, but when there are 3 very big hills involved and the aim is to keep walking, who knows what the final time on the clock will be!”
